Fans of Ariana Grande have taken to Twitter in defense of their idol after talk show host Wendy Williams body shamed the young singer.
The hashtag #CancelWendyWilliams has been trending since the 51-year-old’s controversial comments were broadcast Thursday.
Williams said on her show that Ariana will ‘forever look 12,’ adding: ‘And I don’t mean that in a good way. It’s nice to look younger than you are, but when you look too young and then you’re short… she’s only like 4’11”. I don’t look at her as, like, a woman.’
And in the following days she’ll play in close-by Osaka and then Tokyo before she heads to the Philippines and Indonesia on the Asian leg of her Honeymoon Tour.
She hasn’t said anything publicly about Williams’ comments.
But her fans are rushing to her defense, their ire raised by the suggestion that if you’re petite and youthful, you’re not a woman.
‘Arianators’ have accused Williams of being jealous of Ariana’s good looks and have called her out for being a hypocrite.
Williams made the remarks about Ariana back in April when she talked about the singer’s split from rapper Big Sean and the episode was re-run as the talk show is on summer hiatus.
Williams has not responded to the campaign to get her show taken off the air.
The talk show host is currently on her one-woman Sit Down Tour…Too Real For Stand Up and has hosted her signature talk show for seven seasons, earning two Emmy nominations.
The Love Me Harder singer, of course, caused a controversy of her own last month when she was caught on camera licking donuts on a store counter and saying she ‘hates’ America.
After the video went viral, the young star acknowledged that what she did was inappropriate.
She posted two videos apologizing for her actions and told her fans she was embarrassed by her behavior.
‘Seeing a video of yourself behaving poorly – that you have no idea was taken – is such a rude awakening… I was so disgusted with myself,’ Ariana said in a video she posted to YouTube,
‘I never want to be anything but a positive influence on my babes,’ she said.
